Single operator, single use peroral cholangiopancreatoscopy for the diagnosis of indeterminate biliary strictures and removal of difficult biliary stones

This page provides information on two new Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) items introduced for the diagnosis of indeterminate biliary strictures and the removal of difficult biliary stones from 1 March 2024

From 1 March 2024, surgeons or gastroenterologists with recognised endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) training will be able to bill MBS item 30664 to diagnose indeterminate biliary strictures, and MBS item 30665 to remove difficult biliary stones when using peroral cholangiopancreatoscopy (POCPS).

These changes were recommended by the Medical Services Advisory Committee at its March 2022 meeting, under application 1673.
