MBS Quality Framework Application Forms

In facilitating a more transparent approach to the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) listing process, the Department has replaced the informal internal assessment of new MBS item applications with a more formal process that will determine eligibility for MBS listing and the appropriate assessment pathway.


MBS Quality Framework

The Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) is the cornerstone of the Australian health care system as it facilitates universal access to allied health, general practice and specialist medical services. The Australian Government announced in the 2009-10 Budget that it would provide $9.3 million over two years to develop and implement a new evidence-based framework for managing the MBS into the future – the MBS Quality Framework.

The July 2010 Medicare Benefits Schedule


Consultation Paper - Perfusion Services

The Department of Health and Ageing has released a consultation paper and is seeking submissions from interested parties on the current Medicare arrangements for the payment of whole body perfusion (cardiac bypass), using the heart-lung machine or equivalent under the MBS Item 22060 by 1 August 2010.
