The Extended Medicare Safety Net (EMSN) and Original Safety Net have been indexed
Indexation of the Medicare Safety Net Thresholds
The thresholds for both the Extended Medicare Safety Net (EMSN) and the Original Medicare Safety Net have been indexed in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The thresholds are indexed by the CPI on 1 January each year.
The 2012 EMSN thresholds are:
- $598.80 for Commonwealth concession cardholders, including those with a Pensioner Concession Card, a Health Care Card or a Commonwealth Seniors Card and people who receive Family Tax Benefits (Part A); and
- $1,198.00 for all other singles and families.
The Original Medicare Safety Net threshold for 2012 is $413.50.
