Items 63454 and 63460
This change will enable the prerequisite tertiary ultrasound to be conducted in a public hospital or by a private provider. Currently, these items require that an MBS rebateable tertiary ultrasound be claimed before accessing this service (63454 and 63460 - Obstetric MRI) and this has affected patient access.

(a) the patient is referred by a specialist obstetrician; and
(b) the patient is pregnant at 18 weeks gestation or greater; and
(c) a fetal central nervous system (CNS) abnormality is suspected; and
(d) an ultrasound provided by, or on behalf of, or at the request of, a specialist who is practising in the specialty of obstetrics, has been performed and diagnosis is indeterminate or requires further examination.
